Alberto Gomez Jr., a dedicated Culinary Specialist Second Class Petty Officer and a cherished family man, passed away on February 21, 2026, in Goodyear, Arizona, at the age of 70. Born on October 8, 1955, in El Paso, Texas, Alberto led a life that was as vibrant as it was impactful.
A proud United States Navy veteran, MS2 Gomez honorably retired after 20 years of exemplary & distinguished service in the United States Navy. His military career was marked by an unblemished record, during which he served in three conflicts and was recognized for his excellence with numerous awards. Among his accolades, he received the Meritorious Unit Accommodation (1st, 2nd, & 3rd Award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (1st, 2nd, & 3rd Award), the Navy Unit Commendation, and the Navy Good Conduct Medal (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th Award). Additionally, he was awarded the Navy "E" (Efficiency) Medal (1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Award), the National Defense Service Medal (1st & 2nd Award), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th Award). His proficiency was further highlighted by the Rifle Marksmanship Medal and the Pistol Marksmanship Medal, testifying to his dedication and skill throughout his military tenure.
Educationally, Alberto completed his studies at Thomas Jefferson High School and pursued additional college credits including those he obtained through numerous military schools, reflecting his commitment to personal growth and development.
Beyond his professional achievements, Alberto was known for his love of life and his diverse interests. As a child, he enjoyed playing football, a passion that bridged into adulthood as he continued to enjoy watching sports. He had a particular fondness for tacos, cherished the sounds of Elvis and oldies music, and found joy in day trips to the casino. His favorite colors, white and gold, symbolized his bright personality and zest for life.
On June 1, 1981, Alberto married Joanne, with whom he shared a deep bond and many adventures, ranging from travel to exotic countries and foreign lands. Together, they nurtured a family that includes their son, Michael Benavides, and daughter, Pricilla Gomez, both of whom carry forward his legacy.
Alberto's memorial service will be held on March 11, 2026, at Avenidas Funeral Chapel, located at 522 E Western Ave, Avondale, AZ 85323, starting at 10:00 AM including military honors and a flag presentation to his lovely wife Joanne, and concluding at noon. His family and friends invite those who knew him to honor his memory and celebrate a life well-lived.
Alberto Gomez Jr. will be remembered not only for his esteemed military service but also for his loving nature, joyful spirit, and the light he brought into the lives of those around him.
