Larry Dean Barnett, a beloved soul born on February 12, 1957, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, transcended his earthly bounds on January 9, 2026, in Avondale, Arizona, surrounded by the warmth and love of family and friends after a long and courageous battle with illness.

Larry leaves behind a legacy that shines as brightly as his favorite color, blue. A devoted husband to Cynthia S. Barnett, he cherished the quiet moments spent together, weaving memories that would last a lifetime.

Larry’s heart held deep love for his children—Tierra K. Houston, Donzeil A. Houston-Barnett, Keanna L. Barnett, Aliyah A. Barnett, Carmella S. Barnett, and Larry X. Barnett. He was also reunited in 2021 with his olders sons, Larry D. Steele and Le Andre M. Steele, and though they were not able to meet in person, he cherished the connection and carried them in his heart.

He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and although he did not have the opportunity to meet all of them in person, he carried immense pride and love for his growing family.

The love in Larry's life also flourished through his sisters, Katherine Brunner and Joanne Castillo, with whom he shared countless cherished moments woven together with the threads of family ties.

He was predeceased by his caring mother, Opal Lee Castillo, and his father, Jimmy Dean Barnett, whose legacies he honored through his kindness and strength.

Larry attended Hyde Park High School in Chicago, where many of his lifelong roots and friendships began. He was known for his unwavering spirit, which shone through his dedicated work at St. Mary’s Hospital, Shell's gas station and ServiceMaster in Kankakee, Illinois, where he served in custodial roles, ensuring clean and welcoming environments for those he served. After relocating to Arizona, he continued his strong work ethic as a customer service agent with DSI Services and Arrow Security.

In his leisure time, Larry sought the solace of nature through fishing, the thrill of a good bowling game, and the peaceful pursuit of gardening. He embraced the lively world of video games, where he found joy and excitement. Music, especially Country and R&B, was the rhythm of his soul. He savored life’s simple pleasures, particularly soul food and a good Italian Beef, and took every opportunity to visit Chicago to surround himself with the love of his extended family.

Larry Dean Barnett’s spirit will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him—a gentle reminder of the beauty of love, laughter, resilience, and the bonds of family. Though his journey on this earth has come to a close, the memories and love he shared will continue to resonate for generations to come.
