Steven Andrew McKenzie, affectionately known as "Steve," passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 7, 2026, in Waddell, Arizona. Born on May 26, 1971, in Ridgecrest, California, Steve leaves behind a legacy of professional dedication, family devotion, and a zest for life marked by vibrant interests and deep relationships.
A proud alumnus of San Jose State University, Steve earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, a foundation that propelled him into a distinguished career culminating as an ITS engineer within the Traffic Division for the City of Peoria. His commitment to his field was further demonstrated through the attainment of his Professional Engineer (PE) license—an accomplishment he held in high esteem.
Throughout his career with the City of Peoria, Steve was recognized not only for his expertise but also for his unwavering dedication to improving urban infrastructure, thereby enhancing community safety and functionality. His contributions have left an indelible impact on the city’s traffic systems and are a testament to his professional rigor and passion for engineering.
Beyond his professional life, Steve was passionately engaged in a range of hobbies and interests. He had an affinity for the colors blue and green, enjoyed cooking, playing guitar, and raising livestock. Those who knew him remember a man who cherished time spent with family, delighting in entertaining and traveling alongside his beloved wife, Jodie McKenzie. A lover of seafood and classic rock, Steve's vibrant personality resonated through these pleasures, enriching the lives of those around him.
Steve’s closest companion and the love of his life was his wife, Jodie. Together, they built a life filled with warmth and companionship. He is also survived by his children: Ashley (Reese) Valdez, Rachel (Montana) Frame, Israel McKenzie, Jacob Breyfogle, Ashley Breyfogle, and Mason Breyfogle. The family eagerly anticipates the upcoming arrival of his granddaughter, Luna McKenzie Frame. Steve was also blessed to have the support and care of his parents-in-law, Gerald and Bev Pfab.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joe and Carol Sue McKenzie, who undoubtedly instilled in him the values that shaped his character and achievements.
Steven Andrew McKenzie will be remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated professional, and a cherished friend whose presence enriched every life he touched. His sudden departure leaves a profound void, yet his enduring legacy continues through his family and the community he served so diligently.
